    Overview

    The culture and nature of the island of Kalimantan (Borneo) attract travelers from all over the world. One of the exciting routes for those visiting Balikpapan or Samarinda is to travel along the Mahakam River. There are amazing views here: wild orchids, Proboscis monkeys, orangutans, crocodiles, macaques. For lovers of adventure and diving, Kalimantan also offers unique opportunities. All this makes the island an ideal place for relaxation and unique experiences.

    Day 1
    Medan - Bohorok
    • Meeting at the airport or in the lobby of your hotel.
    • At 7:30 am transfer to a local fishing boat and departure to the small village of Sei Gohong (40 minutes).
    • Boarding local boats to observe orangutans on the island of Pulau Kaja, managed by Borneo Orangutan Rescue (BOS).
    • Visit the BOS Education Center in Nyaru Menteng for more information about their activities.
    • Return to Palangka Raya port and board the Rahai Pangung boat for a cruise down to Tanjung Pusaka village.
    • Evening exploration of the village: watching fishing, raising livestock and performing Pencak Silat - a traditional martial art. Join the village school students practicing this art form. Return to the boat and overnight.
    Day 2
    Bohorok – Trekking in Leuser National Park
    • Early morning: use motorized canoes to visit black water Lake Bagantung, a unique peat swamp ecosystem with opportunities to see birds and other wildlife.
    • Continuation of the cruise down to the village of Tumbang Nusa. Arrive and take a walking tour of the village to discover the traditional activities of the local people.
    • Continuation of the cruise down the river, past the large forested islands of Selat and Badak. Perhaps you will be able to see orangutans here. The boat stops so you can spend the night in a quiet place.
    Day 3
    Bohorok - Tangkahan
    • Early morning: cruise continues down to the village of Pilang. A short walk in the forest near the village to observe the process of rubber mining (Mamantat) and rattan harvesting (Manetes).
    • A guide from the village will show you some local medicinal plants growing in the forest.
    • Walking tour of the village to discover traditional activities including rattan weaving by local women.
    • Tea and coffee break with traditional Dayak pies and a musical performance on katsapi.
    • After lunch return to the boat.
    • Departure at 14:00, transfer to vehicles waiting for you to transfer to the airport or hotel of your choice.
