Overview
One of the main temples on the island of Bali – Uluwatu – is located on the southern tip of the Nusa Dua peninsula. This temple was founded by the Hindu priest Nirartha in the early 17th century. From the viewing platform, there is a breathtaking view of the Indian Ocean, and at sunset, Balinese dancers perform the traditional Kecak dance – the "fire dance" or "monkey dance." About 150 Balinese, dressed in sarongs, repeat the chant-chant-chant recitation, and to this accompaniment, dancers in colorful costumes tell the story of Princess Sinta and the evil demon Rahwana. The main character of the performance is the dancer in the white monkey costume – Hanuman. He performs his role by dancing barefoot on hot coals.
After the performance you will be able to enjoy grilled seafood dinner at Jimbaran served in a set-menu style.
*In the temple, there is a not-so-friendly family of Balinese macaques. It is recommended not to stray far from the guide and avoid wearing expensive items or jewellery on this excursion.
